I am not sure why mine is not thicker, but it sure grows fast!
It started out with the brillo pad consistency, but through the years it has gotten thinner and a bit lighter.
I have my light 6 inches above the water and leave it on for about 16 hours/day.
Come check it out. It is an oddity, but it works great for nutrient export.
I did an experiment once and put it under lower lighting. It went back to its original color and texture.
Same thing with the flame algae I have in my refugium. It turns pale under the bright lighting and grows much faster, but then returns to the deep red color once I put it under lower lighting.
Here is an older picture. the first time i saw this i thought the flame algae had died, but it kept growing and would turn red again in the low light.i threw away so much macro algae before I relaized it.. any ideas?
