Anyone use Dolomite?

I need to supplement additional Magnesium, and I already use a Ca reactor, but Korallith media doesn't supply enough Mg for my tank. My current readings are about 1100, and I have to supplement constantly using Seachem Mg (which is a good product), but I cannot maintain the recommended 1300 mg (3 times my Ca) level.

I was reading about Dolomite, and how to use it in a reactor. I know I would need to replace roughly 20% of my media and find the right balance, but wasn't sure where to buy or what the downside might be.

I use a Knop s-iv, which has an Eheim pump at the top which mixes CO2 and H20 by pushes water down the center of the reactor thru an internal tube which then moves the water outward & upward thru the media about 1200 x's per hr. I suspect this is what people call a downflow design, but not sure if this would actually qualify as a fluidized reactor. Anyway, I'm hoping someone else out there has used DOLOMITE (Calcium Magnesium Carbonate) and share their experiences.

Dolomite doesnt really do much and IMO isnt worth the hastle. Dosing a good balanced additive with Mg chloride and Mg sulfate is the easiest way to go. If you make sure that your water change water has sufficient mg to begin with it helps alot.

Try using Mg Oxide checkout this site. You should use calcite instead of coral or domolite. Check out this site for cheap supply. It is food grade matterial.

i concur with Don. i tried using dolomite in my calcium reactor and the magnesium would fluctuate due to the dissolution of the alkalinity of the reactor controlled by the ph controller. your best bet would be dosing the aforemention additives by use of a doser. easier to control and maintain.
i do have some dolomite if you want to try it in your calcium reactor. i now use some in a 2 little fishes reactor fed by a denitrator. the denitrator does desolve the dolomite albeit slowly but is not my main source for magnesium.
