Aqua Lifter Pump Noise

I just hooked up an Aqua lifter pump and it seems extremely noisy. Can you give any input as to why? Thanks.

Welcome to RF! About the pump...Can't really say. I've never had a problem with noise coming from it. Is it a hum from maybe vibrating on what it is sitting on? In any event, it may just be a bad aqualifter. I've purchased things that happened to be lemons sometimes...So far, no aqualifter lemons

Thank you for your reply. I am not real clear as to whether water should flow through it constantly or have some air mixed in there. The directions were not clear at all. I am running it through a little funky filter that was recommended.

Is it running a CPR overflow? If so until all the air is out of the overflow it will pull air untill of course its all gone. LOL

Steve's wright...I mean right! If it is on a cpr overflow, make sure you have the over primed properly and then once the aqualifter has sucked out all of the air, it will quiet down. That is, if you are using it on a CPR overflow...

It is on a CPR overflow that seems to be running smoothly. An air and water mixture just keeps going through the tubes of the aqualifter and it sounds like a thrashing machine. I just must have something hooked up wrong.

Where do you have the return tube for the aqualifter? If it is pumping bubbles right back into the overflow, then the aqualifter will just be re-circulating bubbles over and over. I had that problem at one point and just submerged the return tube for the aqualifter and it seems to have helped. The more bubbles that get into the Cpr the more air will have to go through the aqualifter. About the pre-filter for the aqualifter, I just recently removed mine all together because it was too much travel IMO for the aqualifter and it seemed to put too much strain on the pump and was causing the siphon in my CRP to drop quite a bit so I removed the pre-filter for my aqualifter and ran a short hose direct and had no problems since. I almost replaced my aqualifter because I thought it was bad and I even ordered 2 new replacements, but so far no problems

Thank you for your reply. I have the return going down to the sump, but it is not a constant flow of water and sometimes seems like it bubbles way too much. I think I will also remove the filter on the aqualifter and try that. It just seems like the little pump is working so hard and making lots of racket and the water in the overflow is constantly fluctuating. I have the aqua lifter setting on top of the overflow...should it be somewhere else? I think canister filters are a lot less stress (ha).

LOL...On top of the CPR is best. The shorter the hose the less work for the pump

I have had problems with this brand of overflow. A brand new one out of the box would not operate properly. After investigation it turned out to be a poor seal where the airline tubing connects to the top of the unit. It was not properly sealed and air was being drawn into the line. You can try and re-seal it by adding some acrylic cement around the base but if it is new I would recommend returning it and trying a new one.
