What size of aquafuge refugium do I need for a 55 gallon tank for the best filtration.

Get the largest you can fit. The large size one will fit a 55, depending on other equipment you have back there.

do you not have a sump? if you have a sump i would put it down there. also you can diy one of those and or have a local shop (CFI) build it could be cheaper and will be the exact size you can fit
