i am planning to do a major aquascaping tomorrow. i have a 180 gallon and will be taking out all my rocks/corals and redesigning the layout. I want to add fine sand on top of the coarse sand i have. Any issues with adding new fine sand?

The fine sand will eventually make its way to the bottom of the coarse sand. I don't know If I'd cover it all at once but maybe gradually.

As Scooty said, the finer sand will eventually work it's way through the more coarse sand, and end up at the bottom. So, if you're wanting fine sand on top, you may be better off removing all the coarse sand, and replacing it with fine sand. This will cause a diatom bloom, on your new sand bed, but if you have plenty of healthy rock, it shouldn't cause a cycle.

Yes I mistakenly bought some big crushed coral that was all rocky and it always makes its way to the top. I covered it with ALOT of aragonite finer sand and it still comes through. I have been grabbing it with my nets and sifting it out, but its a neverending story.

If you dont want It I would get rid of it all and start frsh since you are taking everything out.
