august meeting

hey guys, were looking to set up an august meeting. anyone interested can e mail me at [email protected]. or pm me or brianblack.

we are looking for ideas to do possibly a do it yourself project or if any one has a reef keeping area of expertise we would like to hear about it.

anyone visiting the area is also always welcome.

we currently have 4 members and we always have some sort of frags.


anyone from beginner to advanced is welcome. we are also asking local fish stores if they would discount prices to our members. hopefully 5- 10%

ive learned alot from these people and its good to see in person what and how people are doing things.

I hope to here from and see you at the next meeting.

Well if no one is jumping We can have it at my house - easy to find. Anyone coming can pm me for directions and lets set a date cuz freaking August is here. Reefbound - ED what weekends is your wife working or you free?? Tim how bout you and jobob. Jobob threatens to come every month. How is your sched Steve?? I think mine is wide open best check with mama cuz there is a wedding lurking sometime. Everyone lets get a list of product that everyone has cuz Steve and I pretty much have what each other has. Steve bring the baby with if it is doing good. I will get a list of what I can frag - Ed has some nice Xenia for trade or sale - I have a batch from him and it is doing good. Maybe get some pics posted. If you look in my gallery you can see some of my stuff. I will get some thumbs together - Steve I haven't cut the ricordea yet. I will pm everyone but lets make it towards the end of the month so everyone has a chance to frag and grow a bit. You do have to have frags to come - Maybe if I get my shit together I can show and tell the MJ mod that Ed showed me - too cool. I have some parts but need a few more items - Check my kite parts for some composite rod - Trains and lanes had a limited confusing amount - anyone know a goo source for composite/graphite rod and tube let me know. I go a good source for impellers - in China go figure. Will mail this post around

Date is Sunday Aug 27 noonish my house - be there - bring frags but not a must. Everyone come - Steve and I do not bite neither do our dogs.:razz: The fish might.:lol: and the shrooms do squirt:badgrin: The more involement the more trading and fun. leave a post if attending - need directions pm me. easy to find. Only lasts as long as you stay. Will order some mod parts theis weekend and hopefully have one built for the meeting - Ed -reefbound- has one and it seemed to work good!!

I also have spoken to one of the areas lfs owners he is willing to give us fish and corals at cost to use at our meetings for fragging and demonstrations. so this meeting hopefully we can get orders in and see how it turns out. we may even have the next meeting at his store. reefbound are you looking for anything special?

no nothing special, just somthing I dont have... So far this is what I have:

Pink frogspawn/w 1 bud
Red/green open brain
orange and grey striped Goblet brain
trumpet corals
Yellow Fiji leather
Galaxea coral
mini torch coral frag (thanks brian)
four zoa colonys
pumping Zenia
Pink colored hammer/w 3 buds
Green star polyps
Gold Porites coral

I just wish I knew how to frag... The zenia frags itself so I always have that on hand. I just took some to a LFS and he couldnt believe how good it looked (his words) and gave me a NICE credit. Maybe one of these meetings you guys could travel down here and teach me how to frag.


edit: Brian that mod I have is still going fine, The only thing you have to watch is the way you put the blade on, it has to be backwards if that makes sense... I think I finally have the upper hand on that algae problem. I guess the RO/DI and the heavy skimming works,it almost gone. If I can make it to this meeting I can bring my modded MJ900 so everyone can see how it works.

I thought there was a small piece of acrylic rod that if the motor started up backwards that the blade would hit and then reverse direction. According to the reading the power head could start up in either direction.

As for fragging we are still doing the easy stuff. We can have a little demo here at the meeting if you want and talk about different things. Believe me we are far from experts but have been to an Anthony Calfo demo which was very good. I also went to a Julian Sprung demo which was similar to Anthony's but learned a few things.

Thats true but, the blade has to go on backwards so that the flow is away from the MJet. I dont know what blade your going to use but I have the Octura 1435 and the notch that is on the blade is supposed to be pointing to the MJ so the flow is away from it.

cool ed. bring some of that pumping xenia and i will get a multicolor mushroom rock together for you. I just got some true blues which are realy nice.

sryder, if you look in my gallery you can see the frag I gave to Brian.I just fragged a two stalk off the main colony and it looks like a third is starting so maybe by the meeting yours will be a three stalker...This stuff grows way too fast in my tank.

Do we need some rubble to put frags on? I can get lots of dry rubble.

I don't have any xenia yet, so that's a yes. Dry rubble sounds like a good item to bring along. I'm putting together a travel kit. We'll see how it does on the 27th.

You can put your frags on virtually anything. I put them on shells and rock and plugs. All depends on your taste and what you want to do. I am glad we finally have some excitement. akaatomic have you heard anything from the Jersey club post on thereeftank?? Went to my LFS and spent 80 just on food!!

I just had to rip up some of my tank cuz someone decided to redecorate and dislocated my baby hammer - had to do a search and rescue. Better not find the culprit and if I do it is to the bad boy tank.
