I have a Current compact fluorescent light. 48"
it takes the 65w bulbs, has two ballasts.

I think one ballast is bad. I have found the replacement
ballast online at a couple of places. They range from about 37 bucks plus shipping.

Is it typical to have to replace the ballasts after a few years?
Do you have to put in the same exact ballast? I know you need to have the correct pins, voltage ect..

Not sure its worth fixing..

I'd say typically yes the cheaper brands could go out after about two years. You could try & contact them but probably for the price It would be much easier to find a replacement. If you can get the right pin connectors It should fit in the fixture no matter what brand you get but just maybe having to screw it down on a different spot inside the unit.
If your happy with what you got then I see no reason to upgrade unless you just want better performance overall, then this may be a good time to upgrade.
