i am thinking of trying this on my new tank...does anyone have some pics of their bare bottom?..also, does your liverock slide around easilywhen you stack it..i don't want unstable rock and i don't want to glue it

i don't have a bare bottom but i've seen people use acrylic legs for their rocks and it looks awesome you cannot see a difference :) .
and besides you need a little bit of flow go under hehe

Here's a pic of my BB. Not a very good one but....

As for the rock I got a Piece of 3/8" arcylic and drilled 3/8" holes in it about
1" apart. (made into Swiss Cheese). Then I got some 3/8 arcylic dowl and cut a bunch of pieces 1" to 2" in length. Put the few dowls in the hole and started placing rocks. It took some work to get everything stable but it keeps the rock off the bottom and prevents detritis from building up. I also have a spray bar under my rocks that my return pump is connected to. As the water returns to the tank it spray's the bottom of the tank. Keeps it all nice and clean under there.

oooooohhh...you have a hippo...those make any tank look good:).i have 3 myself...their my favorite!

Go for it! It feels soooooo good to let your A$$ hang out!! Been doing it for 6 months now and I don't have all the nitrate problems i was having before.

willie:D

Well, you know I am bb. HAd it like that in my 990gal before taking it down, in my 75gal, and now the cube. Love the look and how easy it is to keep things clean:)

Here's a photo of my 75gal before I took it down to switchover to the cube which is bb as well and I'm sure you've seen. Both had PVC board bottoms:)

Some reefkeepers use a material called Starboard which is what many boat livewells and such are made out of so it is reef (marine) safe. They use it to both protect their bottoms for potential rockslides and because they feel it looks more natural once encrusted with coralline algae, 'shrooms, zoos and the like.

i've seen people use dark boars for the bottom and it looks kewl too ... but just remember that it's gonna turn pink/ purple :p.

Krish what do you use on the bottom to make it look white?

I use the same stuff as Steve (Wrightme43) uses which is pvc board. It is similar to starboard, but not as reflective and glossy which is why I use it. Alot cheaper as well if anyone is curious:)

Does anyone know where I can get starboard here in the Silverdale/Bremerton area?

You're close enough to the coast, you can probably call any number of boat dealers and repairmen, and they could order you some.

krish, you painted the back of your tank, right??? i want to do something other than a "stick on background"

HECK NO!!! That is an $80 piece of acrylic I installed on the inside of the tank. The cube has a black acrylic back:)

has anyone painted the outside of their tank{the background)???? did it look good or bad???
