Ok, this is going to be my first reef tank. I had a Salt water tank before, but I only had 1 anemone a starfish and about 5 other fish. I want to get some corals, but I am overwhelmed by the information on the internet and was wondering if someone could just tell me what corals are easy to keep, if I can keep them in the same tank, what else could go in the tank, etc. I am also looking to purchase some frags and need to find someone in the spokane area. Thank you in advance!

By the way, it is a 25 gallon tank with natural daylight florescent lighting

1st...

Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!! Glad to see you here with us! :D

I've heard VERY good things about Aquatic Dreams there in Spokane.
http://www.aquaticdreams.biz/

Go there and have a talk with Kevin ("kevinpo" here in Reef Frontiers), and he will give you some awesome information about what your system can support, and how to best take care of them... he is a super guy!

Again, welcome aboard! Keep us all posted with how your tank progresses!

Ohhhh, and don't forget the pictures!!! :D :D :D

Yes, welcome Thorin,

I can attest that this forum is a great place to ask your 'stupid questions'! Seriously, the folks on this forum WILL answer your questions. Read, ask questions, research, and form your own opinion on how best to proceed in this hobby.

Welcome to RF!!! I agree with the others...Visit Kevin. He's a mod/RF staff member here and also a regular always willing to help. He'll get you sorted out in no-time:)

Here's my $.02 worth: I live in Spokane and practically live @ Aquatic Dreams. Suprised Kevin doesn't charge me rent.:D All my gear w/exception of tank and stand came from there. His LR is AMAZING, as is everything else. The corals I have (also all from them) are: Green Frogspawn, Hammer, Toadstool leather, Torch, and a recently fragged Candy Cane. We fragged it last week and he gave me store credit for 4 frags. His specialty is SPS, but gets good LPS too.

They are in the valley on Pines

What is the depht of the tank and what wattage are your lights. Soft corals require less light than other types.

I'll also swear by Kevin!! Your post says you have "natural daylight flourescents" Are these Normal Output Flourescents? If so, that may not be enough lighting for any coral or anemone. You'll need a higher intensity lighting for just about any coral...although there are a very few that don't need lighting...that need to bed fed instead...which can be cool, but can also foul your tank quickly if you're not careful.

Thorin, Kevin will set you straight for sure! His shop is on pines, right after the freeway exit (before sprague). I live there on the weekends too! If you have questions this forum is an awesome place, but if you just need to sit down and chat for a bit about what you want to do in the hobby, Aquatic Dreams is the place to go. Besides Kevin, you can pick up on other reefers experiance while you are there, it seems the store is more and more packed each time I go in there :D

I am guessing the first thing you will need is a light upgrade. Give us more info on the light.
Welcome to RF

False gramma/ Bicolor dotty not so hotty

Hey all, I've got a Bicolour dotty back in my 33 gallon reef tank. It was d 1st fish dat I put in my tank and is territorial. He sometimes bothers my yellow tailed damsel and bullied my sixline wrasse to death. He never bothers my small clownfish or yellow tang. Amazingly he killed a cleaner shrimp minutes after it was put in my tank and at present he occasionally bothers my small emarald crab and hates seein my pistol shrimp out of it hiding place.Ne ideas wat fish would b safe with it .(Its near imposible to catch him)!!!
