Anthony,
I am going to build a DIY skimmer for my 180. It will hold mainly corals and maybe some small fish. I want to build the most efficient skimmer for a coral tank possible. Here is what I was thinking so far let me know what you think.

  1. Counter current
  2. 35" - 40" tall (to fit in my cabinet)
  3. 6" - 7" in diameter
  4. 6 - 7 air stones
  5. 150 gph running through skimmer from sump
  6. large multi fitting air pump

bro... you have to check out the skimmer production 101 thread here on RF (see it listed with other great threads to read under "discussions" in the sticky thread atop this forum called "Fav links"). The old (2005) 101 thread is fabulous and has much technical data for perspective and construction. Your skimmer and knowledge will be immensely better for the read.
