I want to start a thread to help establish what the PSAS can offer to the sponsors in return for their help.

So here is my short list of things we can offer sponsors:

  1. Advertising on the PSAS website (minimal value unless we can increase traffic)
  2. in store events that bring in people with wallets
  3. means of communication (our email list reaches a lot of people)
I think the biggest thing we have to realize is that the way the local stores make money is by people actually entering the stores. So group buys where people come into the store to pick up things and end up getting that fish or coral they see while there....that is good for the sponsor. Raffles where people have to come into the store to buy tickets....again people in the store is good. Store tours are great too.

We have to foster these relationships and not take them for granted or they will disappear.

Perhaps some of the sponsors can post their thoughts and insights into how they can benefit. This should not be a parasitic relationship.

excellent idea Reed, an open forum where sponsors can ask for what they would like to see from psas.
and in case the members didnt already know, the sponsors do alot more than just offering us 10% off, they are reponsable for donating 100% of the raffle items for the bbq in summer, and alot of the items that are raffled off during the year as well. and also allowing us to offer our membership at their stores is huge!! psas knows it needs to do more to accomodate the sponsors so that they dont feel like it's a one way street, and is happy to do so.
ghazni and myself have both mentioned that an improved psas website is paramount to reimbursting the sponsors. also, ghazni's idea of non profit status will allow psas to offer the sponsors tax deductions for their donations.
and let me reiterate... just because i suggested psas consider being atonomous, doesnt mean i dont scincerely appreciate what the sponsors do for psas!!! so please, no arguing, or negativity here, this is a thread for constructive ideas to increase the "glasnost" between psas and all sponsors :)

The current PSAS Board of Directors is committed to strengthening the relationship between the Club and our Sponsors. We realize that the relationship needs to be beneficial to both parties in order to be successful.

The following are some of the ideas we are planning on or have already put into action to give back to our
Sponsors:

We are putting together an efficient method of posting and distributing special sale information from our
Sponsors. We will notify our Sponsors by e-mail when we have everything in place and are ready to commit to a timely distribution.

We have invited our
Sponsors and their employees as our guests to our upcoming presentation on the Culturing of Rotifers and Copepods by Randy Reed of Reef Nutrition. Many of our Club events increase our knowledge of the hobby and we feel these are good opportunities for our Sponsors and their employees to increase their knowledge so they may share with their customer, the hobbyist. We plan to continue extending an invitation to any events we feel will be beneficial.

We purchase Gift Certificates and products from our
Sponsors that we use in drawings and raffles. Our Sponsors also generously donate many of the products and certificates that are given away at these events.

The Board of Directors look forward to a mutually satisfying relationship with all of our
Sponsors.
