I use bifuran+ to dip my zoas when it looks like they are getting a fungus of some sort, but I noticed it has a carcinogen material warning. How nasty is this stuff?

Your not drinking it are you? I wouldn't worry about it unless you are using it multiple times a day for extended periods of time and not taking basic hygiene precautions like washing your hands after use. I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason the warning is on the bottle is because they sell it in Cali, yet Cali doesn't' require labels on fresh veggies with naturally occurring carcinogens.....at least not yet ;)

Bifuran means it has two Furan antibiotics Nitrofurazone (80%) and Furazolidone (20%). Bifuran is both bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal, where it is used for controlling bacterial diseases.

1.) Nitrofurazone is only used to treat infected burns. It is also used to treat skin infections after skin grafts. It only becomes a issue if it is taken orally and you need lots of it.

2.) Furazolidone is listed by the FDA as mutagens/carcinogens, and can no longer be used in the US since 1991 in humans. It also has many bad side effects it taken orally. It is an important drug in treating aquacultured/farmed salmon and trout against Whirling Disease, a deadly Myxozoa parasite. Myxozoa is actually related to jellyfish, corals, anemones and the likes and is not a protozoa like ick :)
