I end up having to do a lot of driving on my weekends which usually means leaving my tank for couple days. In order to break up the drives, I often stop by one of the five LFS I pass on my way back to Lynnwood. I think after today however, I may have to cross one off of my list.

Perhaps someone will be able to explain why this is a good idea to me, but they were either housing with or feeding a dwarf angel to a 6" peacock mantis. They were the only two things in a little tiny box together. Who does that? I've never owned a mantis, am I missing something?

Stranger still, they were selling frags of acropora but did not know the SG of their frag tank, or what alkalinity they keep it at. When I asked these questions the poor employee who informed me he'd been there a week he said he'd get a manager to help. The manager told him he didn't know either and that testing the SG of the tank would take too long.

Needless to say I didn't buy anything.

Am I being unreasonable? Or should some people should stick to selling Tetras?

I think this LFS in particular is a case of people just having no clue what they are doing and are just looking to make a quick buck which is un-fortunate. Once it survives in the store long enough to where it can be sold then that's all that matters. The good thing though is that these aren't the only stores out there. There are LFS' out there that really know what they are doing and who take special care and pride in their buisness. Its these places you want to frequently visit and support. If people kept buying from the guy who just doesn't care then he will continue to do what he is doing because he is making money. You stop supporting them and they have no choice but to shut down because really who stays in buisness if they aren't making any money. :)

Yeah, I agree with Krish. And, dont go back in there. It will just upset you.

I though mantis shrimp eat crabs and snail's ????

Yea, typically they eat crabs etc which they use that hard punch for. To stun them. I have seen a video where a mantis was put in a tank with a blue ringed octopus and the mantis beat up on it. Not sure if they were trying to see if the mantis would pick on the fish for kicks or what they thought. Honestly, it sounds like they don't think to well at that place.

Yeah, I was just a bit surprised because well... the place isn't a Petco and they have a pretty good sized reef section.

It was also the store that got me into this hobby, although these days I typically get everything from a couple of our sponsors (Red C & Barrier). They do an awesome job and really care about the livestock they are selling and the hobby in general. I'm sure there are other great ones around locally, but they tend to be the most convenient for me.
