Hi,
I have a foxface rabbitfish that is severely bloated. He started bloating about 2 wks ago, and has slowly gotten bigger. He has not been eating well since he started bloating, and he has been losing muscle mass. He is swimming and breathing normally, and appears otherwise healthy. I really don't know what the problem is. He is currently in a hospital bucket that I just treated with Maracyn1 and Maracyn 2. He also has a chunk of seaweed in there with him in case his appetite improves. Do you think that there is anything else I should do? I was also considering treating with praziquantel...
He's a relatively new addition to the tank (added 3 wks ago). No, I didn't QT him like I should have... He ate well at first and seemed to be doing fine, other than being chased around a bit by my maroon clown. After a week he started hiding and stopped eating. He hid in a spot where I could spy on him, and I noticed that his belly just kept getting fatter. I got lucky and was able to catch him tonight.
I have a 150 gallon reef tank that's been up for a few years. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrates are at zero (though there's a decent amount of algae around in my tank). pH is 8.2. Alkalinity and calcium are good. I have a mediocre skimmer. All the other fish seem fine (sailfin tang, pacific blue tang, clown, dartfish - all rather small).
Thanks for your help.
