I have not been able to really find any good info on blue sponges. I have one that is slowly dying. I have had it for about 6 months just fine then all of a sudden one day it started to get white around the rim of some of it. The LFS said to take a razorblade and cut off the dead white stuff.

Should they have low, moderate, or high light? Is there anything I can do? I just don't see anything hardly about them. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?

i've never heard of the blue sponges doing well in home aquariums long term either. as far as cutting off the white part goes, that part is dead tissue, i suppose that it couldn't hurt. not to say that it is necessary though. i have a sponge in my tank, about eighteen months now, it has a small section that turned white after i moved my reef into our new house, it hasn't spread nor shrunk.
