OK so I am considering establishing a breeding tank for my picassos. They have some time to mature so it gived me time to do this right. I have a wall in my garage that I can use so here is my plan so far.

Livestock: Beginning with picasso clowns. After getting some success I may expand to seahorse, carsinals and mandarins.

Tanks: Looking at other designs here is my plan so far.

2 shelves of 5 10 gallon tanks each.

75 gallon sump with fuge, skimmer and eheim return pump

single bulkhead in each tank going to manifold for plumbing to sump 1"

2" piping to sump

single return manifold with ball valve to each tank

2 brooding tanks for future mated pairs separate from the pair in display tank

standard florescent lighting

paint all sides of tank to allow larvae to see food easier

Question: What type of protective foam/cover is everyone using over the overflow pipe to protect larvae

suggestions on heater one for system or one for each tank?

Things I am missing

Also plan to culture rotifer and phyto as food sources.

only advice I would have is maybe save yourself some equipment cost and plumbing and just plumb them in series so less flow threw the sump, less ball valves since you only need to control the flow in one side of the rack.
As for heaters, I would keep that in the sump so that every tank is on the same temp unless you see a big drop off as the water flows threw all the tanks. then maybe just add them where you see fit to keep the water temp right.

just my 2 cents ;)
