Well this place has been such a great help, now i need to find a good light system that won't burn my house down!
I found this nice (so i thought) fixture with 2-250w MH, 4-65w PC, 5 cooling fans, & 6-lunar LEDs. Well with alittle reasearch I found out why they are soo cheap and no one stands by them and none in stock!!!(except e-bay) They catch fire!!! I knew it was too good to be true.
I like that design and setup, can anyone suggest one simmilar? A nice reliable one, I know some has the answer! LOL Thanks

Are you looking for a stand alone fixture or are you housing lighting inside of a canopy and if so how much interior height and lenght is there ???

I would think that a 6-8 lamp T5-HO fixture or retrofit with w/ LED's would be just fine and would also be enough for SPS up top of LR.

Really??? you think??? That would be cool, did not want to use MHalides-too much heat.

yeah, those are some awesome lights, way more than i was looking to spend. They are niiiice though. I think i will check out some t-5s or back to the MHalides, I like the t-5 idea if that will be enough!!

i have one that i got on ebay, have only had it for 3 months so time will tell, no problems. it was kinda a risky buy but i am 100 percent happy so far, it was by far half the price, (i dont have deep pockets ) thought it was the best bang for the buck. time will tell

36" 250 watt MH 4X39watt T5, 2X7watt LED moon light
got it for a great deal with light bulbs included

what brand is it?

probably an Odyssea like the one your worried will catch fire. Honestly, I'm not sure it's that big a deal. There will always be the few who swear their light blew up spewing flames, but you also have to wonder if they had 10 things plugged into one outlet or were not using a GFCI. Considering there are probably thousands if not 10's of thousands of the those units out there, if it were really an issue, a lot more folks would be reporting it.

I started off with an oddysea, it worked. It wasn't a great light, but it worked. You will find that the ballasts do not fire and have the continued voltage, so your color temperature will be off even if you buy new bulbs. So with that being said, after I spent the money on new bulbs, new balasts, and the lights. It came out to right about the same as a good fixture. So I say if you have to have it now, then go for it. But you will be spending more money later.

Yeah, thats what I figured. I'm looking at some LEDs, looks like it will cost about the same as if I get a MH fixture with t-5s. I can get two LED fixtures for the same price as the MH unit I like! Leaning towards the LEDs, Thanks Skimmy!!!

ya i dont know the brand its probably **** but the best bang for my buck, i have had no issues but again i have not had it for that long. basically it was over half the price off a name brand, there was no way i could afford more than the light i bought, thats why i got it, time will tell i guess.

If it's the Odyssea, I've been told you will end up replacing everything! Bulbs, Ballasts, some wiring, who knows what else. The evolution LED is about the same price, the one unit is $299!!!either 14K or 20K

Have you decided on what you are going to do? I am leaning towards LED after some more research I have done to replace my lights. The life of LED's over other styles of lights makes it about equal to replacements costs of other fixtures.

I am leaning towards LEDs. After all the looking around, getting options and links, emails,on & on. After considering bulbs, heat, electricity, and looks, I think I like the LEDs. A big thing was initial cost, even buying two LED fixtures, it will be the same if not a little less as if I but one MH/T-5 fixture. I have looked around and I have a friend who has seen the LEDs in person. He said they were awesome, one unit lit a whole additorium!

I think I will try them, I really hope they are as good as everyone says. I live in a place that is last to get anything new, so I have to take someone elses word. Thats not always good.LOL

I am going to have to disagree here. I can tell you this....my 250w HQI MH set up is almost half as much as the LED set up that I would have to get. Difference is I don't have to replace the bulbs on the LED's every 9 months like I do with MH. But LED's are NOT cheaper....not if you get the good one's anyway.

Which LEDs are the good ones? I have been looking around, i've had links sent to me. I've talked to people who have seen them, e-mailed people using them. Looked at pictures (I know they can be doctored). I know it's kind of a gamble, but I haven't herd anything bad about the LEDs I'm looking at. Most places are selling them for $499, I found them for $440! The MH/T-5 fixtures I was looking at are $800-$1500, depending on who and were. So, if I get 2-LED, that would be 400w of LED, color would be 20K, no light bulbs and it will only cost me $880. I don't see how I can go wrong. I won't have to buy anything more, except electric, they even come with hanging kits
