Carbon filter for ozone..

OK, I have been trying to make a way for my water to pass through carbon to filter out ozone. My tank is 200 gallons. The flow rate is too high for water to pass through any carbon filter. The water backs up and cannot escape through the sump quick enough. I tried making the carbon filter from the 4" PVC pipe from an article I was given. Still the water out of the effluent of the skimmer is too much to go through carbon.

Can the water flow over the carbon instead of through it and be good enough?

What skimmer and how is the out flow plumbed?

It is a Euroreef 8-3 the out flow is the stand pipe type.
