The Black Diamond I use is very difficult to clean, so I figure I need a refresher on what I should be doing.

I have a nylon sack that I use to rinse out in cold water, it takes a really long time to get it to clear up & If I rub it throughly it just clouds up again & looses lots of tiny fines.

Few questions, Is Tap water Ok to rinse?
Should I use Cold or hot water?
How long should I rinse it?
Should I be massaging it as I go & If so how variously?
I do use it on a bottom fed reactor but leave it in the sock, Is that ok?
Last question when do I say it is rinsed well enough?

i use RO water to rinse it, cold water :p ,i rinse it until the water comes out clear, i always massage it  :D and i guess sort of viciously if that's what yuo mean  :p , i don't know about the reactor dood, and well the last one... just make sure the water is not darkish color :) .....now that's just my way :p,, but if you keep getting the tiny particles i'd just not keep cleaning it too hard ??

I did what Bob does only I used tap water, which for me is not an issue :) If you don't like the BD then get some SeaChem Labs Matrix, which is better for a reactor anyway or some TLF Hydrocarbon. If you want the cleanest stuff there, a few second rise just to get it wetted and get any gases out, then the thefilterguys GAC. Temp for rinsing, the same as the tank. Yor are only trying to remove the dust from the GAC through rinsing and that is all.

Sounds good to me thanks! Next time when I run out of store credit I'll try something different maybe.
