So I drop by one of six LFS's in reasonable distance from my commute this evening and I am looking at the fish. I was really surprised that out of maybe 100 fish in 30-40 tanks....that three of them were dead!

I talked with the gal behind the counter a little to ask what was going on. She told me that they had recently relocated a bunch of tanks and equipment and that she had just done a water change, and that the last time or two since the relocation the were some causulties during water changes. She also told me that so that they were monitoring different sources of fish and seeing more causualties from some vendors.

I am wondering what a more experienced reefer would think of this.

Thanks

I would think that in any relocating of fish there is going to be a percentage of loss. It just stresses them. Water changes shouldn’t do this if done correctly. If the place you went to leaves the fish in the tank when they were aware the fish were dead I would be a little concerned about the other fish in that store. I would certainly watch them closely before buying.

I think I know what store you are talking about and they have been having alot of die off latley. I stopped buying fish from them till it gets better. Try Barrierreef, really nice tanks , fish and coral. They are in renton. I havn't had anything die that I bought there yet. I think they make sure that everything is eatting befor they sell also.

I agree when moving you have that chance of die off.... so far todate all fish I bought from barrier or red sea no health issues all fish fat and happy. my clowns I got from red sea are healthy as can be also my orange spot goby and yellow tang from barrier the same fat and healthy. I am not sure what store your talking about I have only been to 4 of them and with the luck I have from those 2 I will still shop there. red sea is alittle further from me but worth the time and money when I go head up that way.

Same store I was talking about. Knowledgable people just having some problems. They will get it fixed. They are pretty concentrated on there new store. I have bought from them for along time. Like I said I will buy from them again, when they get it all fixed up.

they have been downsizing and have had to re-establish some of there tanks. They are not a bad store by any means. They Have been setting up a lot of stuff at there shop so i wouldnt be to worried.. Im sure they arent letting dead fish just hang out in there tanks to often..

It seemed like a more long term established kind of place, it just seemed weird that they were loosing so much live stock.
