Is this a crocea ?

clamkk3.jpg

Does this clam look normal and healthy ?

Its actually blue, but I really cant seem to get a good angle to take the photo.

Looks like one. Do you have a picture of the shell - it'll be rather smooth..

Looks like he's gaping a bit - but not usually a big deal with Croceas... did you just get it and put it in your tank?

Got him about a month ago. Placed him at the top of the tank, close to the 150W MH. What can cause this gaping ?

I'll try to get a pic of the shell...

its a Crocea. Croceas tend to hold there incurrent syphons open some times, its no big deal. true gaping looks quite different, the incurrent syphon would be completely stretched out to the point where it looked like its about to split open and the mantle would be retracted.

Phew,....thanx for the explanation....makes me feel better...

1 more question, do the clams have any ability to sting its neighbours like sps etc ??

I plan to get another crocea, preferably a different colored one and place it at a lower position. Just to see if the clam will be happy there, then I will move this blue one down as well. Right now this blue one is about 8" away from the 150W MH's.
