Hey guys I'm looking to add a dsb to my fuge in my... 4 year? Established tank. When I started this tank I used used live sand. I boiled it, then rinsed it for a long time, then boiled it again, then rinsed it again. It was a loooong process. I'm thinking of doing the same thing when I add sand to my fuge. It worked great last time, and it was 5 times the amount, but this time I'm not adding it to an empty tank, I've got a lot invested in it now and don't wanna risk anything. I know the obvious answer is just go buy some dry sand but I'm cheap and like I said, it worked great last time. Any thoughts or advice on the subject would be great!

I have bought sand from craigslist. It had dried up & wasn't live. I used a hose to rinse until all the crap came out & the water was clear. I had no problems. It really depends on what was going on in the tank the sand came from. If you know there were no pests, I would just rinse well. If you don't know, boiling it may be a good idea.

It's not exactly from a tank:gossip: it's definitely very dirty, I'll be boiling for sure
