hi,

i've seen several mentions of a "closed loop" and i have no idea what that is or means. can someone please tell me what it is, why its good to have, and how do i create one? thank you!

wow you just opened a can of worms!
there are LOTS of threads on in the archives on this website!

A cloosed loop is a system for flow only basically a pump and plumbing NOT to the sump but just to circulate water!!

Ok well a closed loop system is pretty much just that. You have an intake for water then u send it thru a pump and pump it right back into ur tank. Its just something thats good to circulate your water more without the need for powerheads inside your tank. You can create it many ways it all depends on what type of tank you have(acrylic or glass)and is your tank already setup? I did mine without drilling the tank i went over the top with pvc pipe in some holes that were already there from the factory. Hope that helps some and im betting more people will chime in as well. :)
