clouded water remedy?

my tank now looks like a mud puddle... because of me... i sifted a bunch of sand to get all the worm tubes out and now its totally fogged over... is there any remedies for this other than a canister filter or something? i dont have a single piece of filter medium in my entire system so it usually takes a week or so to clear up... i was thinking i could maybe put a shirt or pillow case around the end of my overflow drain in the sump?? maybe a bad idea idk....

When all else fails, a diatom filter can make just about any clowdy water crystal clear (at least in my experience).
