After letting them stay in quarantine my favorite LFS for 3 weeks I brought home a small couple of clownfish that were in the same tank together. Well they've been eating fine and staying in the open part of the tank just swimming around (they get caught up in the flow of the powerheads but seem to want to stay there for some reason) and the weird part is at night they hover right below the waterline, is this normal activity?

The closest they have to an anemone right now is a frogspawn or a heliofungia but they haven't even acted remotely interested

My pair act funny like that too. At night it’s like they swim aimless like there on cruse control with no real direction.

that's exactly what they're doing! lol i felt terrible and tried feeding a little more because i thought their poor little fish hearts were working overtime

Mine do the same. During the day they sit on a big red shroom and at night they head up behind the K1 about an inch below the waterline. They sleep head to tail with each other pointed straight up and down.

it's called sleep swimming....humans do it to but it's called sleep walking. they appear to be awake and swimming but really they are asleep and have no recollection of what happened the night before. I pray for your clowns they do not get night terrors and start screaming too. I recommend an anemone for them to host in. my true perc took to mine the 1st day.
