Hey Everyone!

Recently I wrote a research paper on the affects of overfishing on the environment. To make a long story really short I will touch on the highlights.

1. We have already pulled 90% of the fish out of the oceans.
2. Different types of fishing methods such as trawling destroy coral reefs.
3. Many of these fishing techniques catch fish that are not a targeted species. They are called bycatch. Typically they total 3 times the targeted species and are usually disposed of. (That means lots of dead fish for no reason)
4. Global warming is on the forefront of concerns due to gasses emitted primarily from coal burning plants. Not only do these plants produce CO2 but mercury as well. This falls into the ocean in rain and contaminates the fish. You eat this fish! Bad Bad Bad!

Below is a link that will give you a tool to help the environment and your health as well. http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/seafoodwatch.asp
Not only do they have information about the above topics but the offer a guide on what fish to buy and eat based on their impact on the environment and weather or not the contain contaminates.

I hope this peaks your interests.... Final thought: The Cod population off the coast of Nova Scotia was decimated by over fishing a decade ago. This cost 40,000 jobs and the near extinction of the species. Within the next decade many other species many be gone from our tables and the environment as well. Tuna is on the top of that list.......

Hi,

I went carp fishing last weekend and caught nothing but not because of pollutants I hope but seriously you highlight some massive issues here and its typical of mankind to drain its resources in ignorance of the facts, strange how insects out number us 1 billion to one but manage to live in harmony with the world, maybe one day those that can influence a situation will but probably not until its to late.

Im all for yonger Primeministers and Presidents people who have longevity on their side lets just say older in this case is not wiser sadly.

Seasons greetings

Ricki
