I was thinking on getting a pH probe and also an external heater controller but I just saw this unit on Marine Depot and seems like a good deal.

Neptune is a cool system, But i like the Aquadyne controller.Why? because you get more for your money and you can control lots of different things.

Controllers are neat toys. But I would not put all my eggs in one basket.

Make sure it comes with the DC-8 (or X10 interface) or whatever, or it's not
going to "control" anything. I have it, and I like it (with the DC-8), no problems at all. If you are interested in hooking it up to a computer, they have a new version with a serial port. Just FYI.
