At what point can you get something to help keep your Coraline in check? Is a urchin the best way to add in a critter to help or am I best off to keep scrapping? What kind of urchin or other animal if that is best?

Any critter that eats it, is only going to make it worse. Corraline spores when attacked. Usually stronger light slows it down.

It just one of those reef thing.

Thanks for your input. My kids would like one, but I hate scrapping the glass as I am short and my tank is tall. So kids may have to go without.

+1 on what mojo said!! Plus, an urchin wont eat it all, just whatever he wants to eat - haha like every other fish we add! Best to just hunker down and scrape... if you keep up on it, its not bad - and if you get one of the higher quality floating magnet scrapers they can take some of it off for you :)

I have had a black spiny urchin for 5-6 years and he loves Coraline, my current set up is a 125 two years old, and the only place I have any is where he can't get, I have more in my sump than my main display, I have never had to scrape any off in the main display

tuxedo urchins are pretty much reef safe and do a good job on algae and coraline. They encourage coraline growth by eating it which if you want more on your rocks is a good thing.

I really would not mind more on the rocks and the kids would really like a urchin so there is a good chance that one will eventually find it's way into my tank. Especially since my feather duster is probably going to a new home before my clown kills it. :(

I always had a few of the black long spines in my tanks over the years. They grind the rock pretty good but tended to be a bit clumsy, as in their spines would knock stuff over. once a year I would give them a hair cut and snip off the spines to make them shorter. I am sure their is a picture somewhere on RF of a long spine with a mohawk.

LMAO... too funny. My daughter has declared that when we get our urchin she would like the Tuxedo urchin. At six anything that sounds fancy and has color is a big hit, but hair cuts.... might make it a hard decision for her. Like the cat by the way.
