Anything that should be changed?

Do you know how much water drains out of the display tank when the return pump shuts off?

It will work the way you show it.
IMO I would make as much room in the fuge as you can. Your skimmer section could be 1 1/2'' smaller, and your return pump section could be 4'' smaller. Your fuge section should be 10% of your DT volume to do its intended job. IMO.

None of these changes would change the size of your glass being cut.

Water in tank: 2”x48”x24” = 9.47 gallon
Water in Overflows: 6”x6”x6” = 1 gallon x 2 = 2 gallons
Total = 10 gallons

Water in Plumbing = 5 gallons?

Amount of water in the sump:
Skimmer Section: 18”x12”x9” = 8.42
Refugium Section: 9x18x9 = 6.31
Return Sections: 18x8x12 = 7.48
Total = 23 gallons

Water in Sump plus water draining from plumbing/tank
23+5+10 = 38 gallons

Dimensions of the 40 breeder
36x18x16 = 44 gallons

LEEWAY:
44 gallons – 38 gallons = 6 gallons

Let me know if my math is wrong. These numbers do not account for the displacement of the pumps, skimmer or glass baffles.

I am thinking of doing an external fuge, but dont think I am going to have the room for that.

I plan to use reactors down the road.

The display is a 140 gallon, starting FOWLR and turn to reef next year probably. I dont think I can make a 14 gallon Fuge in the sump with this layout.
