My tank has been up and running for 6 weeks now and I am finally ready to add some fish to continue the cycling process. Last time I used 3 blue chromis and they worked out fine. What I was wondering was can I add 2-3 percs to do the job for me this time seeing that they are kinda hardy or is it better not to risk it and go with the chromis which is very hardy?

I have all the LR I'm using in there now, it's been in there all the while. Well, it was LR, but I let everything die off in the sun for about 3 months and then put it in the tank. Ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is less than 3ppm.

It may have already cycled. Did you test during the first few weeks for a cycle.

Don

I think you would be fine Krish.
chromis can handle i believe almost anythig, how long have you had them in there ?
because if they have been for quite while and if they are happy there, then i'm sure the clowns would be able to handle it too.
One thing that you should think about is that the chromis might start attacking the clowns, so you gotta watch out.

Gabriela, have you been drinking gain (LOL). I don't have any fish yet knuckelhead (LOL) That's why I am asking. I know the chromis will do fine, but I was just wondering if the clowns will do fine to help cycle the tank instead of using chromis..."Silly willy". (LOL) My signature is gonna have to be for you now (LOL).

Oh sorry Don, I was too busy wondering if Gabriela knew something about "the chromis" in my tank that I didn't know about, that I forgot to answer your question (LOL). I never checked the water's parameters in the beginning. Not until week 4 which was still the same as now except that my nitrites were about 2ppm then and now none. My skimmer from day 1 was pulling out junk and then about week 3, it stopped producing. I figured it may have cycled a bit, but not really enough to hadle a bigger load. That's why I wanted to completely cycle it with some fish and wanted to know if maybe 2 percs would be fine.

Krish, I thought you had taught your fish a neat trick by the title.

LOL LOL!!! No Ken they still only swim for me, but on another thread I see Steve (wrightme43) talks to them and find them quite smart LOL.

I seriously doubt two clown fish are going to overload the system to the point it causes them any harm. You have a large tank, a good skimmer, and its been set up long enough. Or you can use the dead shrimp cycle trick, toss in a piece of fish or shirmp. Let it rot. Check you parameters. watch what happens. Large ammonia, then nitrite spike not cycled, nitrate spike cycled.

Thanks Steve...I tried the shrimp thing and it floated so I threw it in the garbage. LOL. I much rather watch some fish swim around anyway than a dead shrimp...They just aren't too active!

LOL!!!!
ohh man, you are kiling me
sorry Krish, chatting and typing sometimes is not my strong.
but ya i think your tank is fine dood and anyways if the fish dies, there's always more lol.. no i'm just kidding.

How about this one Krish. Ok you take a normal ordinary hamster ball. And a normal ordinary hamster. Then modify the hamster ball, by adding rocks to it so it will sink. You seal up almost all of the airholes. You drill a small hole the size of air line tubing, you silocone it in real good. You hook up a air pump and drop it in the tank. Its like a little diving bell for a hamster. Think about it. Its better than fish. Its a HAMSTER man, a HAMSTER living underwater. Its like the next wave in aquarium keeping, you can get in on the ground floor. 19.95 and I will send you detailed plans. 79.95 and I will send a premade hamster subsurface aquatic habitat. Its the new way man, hamster cycling.

Oh my goodness Steve, We could get those little tubes they run around in a build a whole city they dive down to!!! Hamsters of Atlantis!! (my wheels are turning real hard now) I like your pricing but with good marketing this could be HUGE!! Do we have to worry about hamster bends, or is it not deep enough, or does it depend on lung capacity? Do ya think we could teach them to fish so they could be self reliant? Little hamster fishing poles, wait, better, little hamster spear guns they can use from the diving spheres.... WOW!!

Dang it Ken, you let the cat out of the bag. LOL Thats phase two. Once we get the kids hooked on hamsters underwater then the marketing potential is unlimited. Phase three envolves parakeets, its still very hush-hush right now. (market testing is still in progress) We had a big break thru with monkeys, the only problem is tank sizing. Well that and they throw poop. Nobody likes that.

Parakeets, oh my no...Parrots, we will teach them to say things like "AHOY MATTEY", "YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM", "COME ON IN THE WATER'S FINE" and such....Have a little pirate ship on the surface the animals use to get into the diving bells. Oh my the dollar signs are just dancing in my head. How about a partner ship. You can see I have a few good ideas. I can handle distubution on the west coast. Animals Of Atlantis This is going to be big....

Didn't we just talk about dead ducks and goats in another thread? lol

The Clownfish should be fine. Both them and Chromis are in the extremely hardy Damsel family; they just don't act like it for the most part.

Clayton

West side East Side we got the hook up and all your underwater pets. Its cool, its fun, your a loser unless you have a underwater pet.

Clayton..Ducks and goats, you must be thinking of another site, they won't work well as Animals Of Atlantis Steve we really have to do some reseach on compatibility, can hamsters and parrots coexist in the same underwater habitat? Will these be strictly species tanks... Ya species tanks, hamster tanks are the least expensive, Parrot tanks are top of the line expensive, due to the training curve. We could have theme tanks also. Hamsters of the Deep, Parrots of the
Caribbean ( with the pirate ships) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!
