okay, so recently my devils hand was stung by my galaxy coral, so i moved the galaxy. in about one day my devils hand went from looking like this:

to looking like this:

do you think my devils hand is screwed? the LFS said that he'll probably just close up for a couple days and then be fine. what do you think?!?!?!? this is the very first coral i ever put in my tank, and he's always done just fine.

i think it will depend entirely on how badly the galaxea blasted it, it does look like it will recover to me though. in the future always give Galaxea at least 8" in all directions and put it in a lower flow area to control its aggressive tendencies...skip

Pulleygirl,
Hammers and Torches sometimes carry sweepers too. I was looking at your lower picture. If you move a soft coral sometimes coral will react like picture you show above. Things to consider would be water movement, is coral getting the same water movement as before? How high is the coral, is coral the same height as it was previously. Water quality would be a big factor too off course. I believe coral is upset because you moved it. I worry about mixing softies with LPS and SPS. I have heard time and time again its a good practice to run charcoal with a Mixed reef. A mixed reef being Softies, LPS, and SPS together. I hope your coral comes back soon. A simple water change with water same temp and salinity added slowly and not directly to any coral with probably help this guy. I hope this helps, Good Luck, Ed

My experince with the leathers is they usually recover well from anything withen reason. They do not seem to like changes in flow, height, or any other change at all. They usually open back up if left alone and in a good spot. HTH Steve

i did not move the leather, only the galaxy. the leather is completely attached to the rock it is on, and probably would kill it if i attempted to move it :p

Oh, Sorry, I thought you had moved it. If not it should come back unless it gets really slimy and starts to rot pieces off. If it does that, just cut of the good parts and stick them to the rock with plastic swizzil sticks. Steve

Ok, so coral was not moved, Have you changed lighting recently, or had any changes in other corals? I wonder if coral will molt or is getting ready to molt or shed its outter skin. I know softies usually respond within a week and are faster at recovering than SPS and LPS. If it does not repond soon, I was thinking maybe a Iodine dip for bacterial infection. I am waiting for the Big Dogs to correspond. I am confused, and may lead you the wrong direction. Come on Softie do your thing and come back out and play...I am doing my magic dance, hoping for the best for your coral
Ed
