Ive been meaning to post this for a week now.

Its been a quiet winter in the Pacific Northwest and most of us didnt need to use our generators.

Some of us winterize our boats and trailers. We summerize our snowmobiles and we ignore our generators (which we depend on just as much) in the garage. If you dont take a few simple steps it wont fire up when you need it the most.

Step one: Go to the local auto parts store and buy some gasoline stabilizer. This will help keep the gas form turning into turpentine.

Step two: Clear the junk off the top of the generator and take it outside

Step three: pour the stabilizer in the tank and top it off so its full for next winter.

Step four: Start the generator and let it run for a few minutes.

Step five: turn off the generator and put it away.

I personally dont recomend draining the gas out because it is possible for the seals and gaskets in the carburator to dry out. Its not common but possible. Let me and everyone else know if you have a better way or Ive forgotten something.

Just thought I remind everyone. ;)

I try and use my generators at lest once a month for something so that they are always ready to go and I always run the fuel stabalizer in everything I own...

I also run mine about once a month, but I also put a heavy load on it for 15-20 mins. to make sure it will handle the load when it is needed. Kind of like your car will start and idle but when you need to drive it, it keeps stalling out

The guy comes every 2 weeks and checks over everything for me. I have stay on top of things especially when power outtages can be pretty frequent here in the summer months and during hurricane season :)

Not a bad idea to do an oil/filter change either.....
