Different PC wattages?

hey everyone,
was wondering if it is possible to run 65watt PC lamps on a ballast that is set up to run dual 55watt lamps. I belive the ballast brand is workhorse, and it is electronic.

If it would light it up It probably will flicker & not work right.

i sort of figured as much. what about a smaller wattage lamp, say 35watt?

You will overdrive it, shorten the life, you should stick to the rated lamps, your not talking a much of a cost difference comparing them.

it's not a matter of saving money, it's a matter of finding the 420 actinics (purple ones, not blue) in 55 watt straight pin which is what my retrofit kits are. the few places i've looked only have these lamps in the blue actinic. i just prefer the color from the purplish lamps.

Ahh, the worst thing you could do is ruin a lamp If you do experiment, I don't think the electronic ballast will overdrive the lamps exceedingly but I would check farther into that before trying it, don't want a fire
