Hay cross when I staryed my first saltwater tank I got a 10g setup from wallmart $30 and you can get. Some 20 watt 50/50 bulbs that will fit in the stock hood thay run about $20 ea at the lfs and I put an extra hob filter on the other side of the tank for more flow it worked pretty good for me hope the info helps you and if not keep asking questions there is a lot of smarts on this web site . Good luck

allright.... you want the skinny on a cheap but efficient nano setup???
first off, I say go with 20g, believe it or not It'll be the same or less money that 10g.
second...
aquatraders is your best ghetto reef outfitter supply friend...
at least for the lights, hob skimer/fuge body, or hob skimmer body;

so notice the skimmer of fuge doesnt come with a pump???
this is a good thing, because your going to buy a maxi-jet 900/1200 or quiet one 1200 and mesh mod it for the skimmer or skimmer/fuge.

then scoop one of these octopus powerheads for flow, better than koralia and cheaper:

slap a heater in the skimmer, or skimmer/fuge body and your done for gear...
now you can get bent on the cost of all the cool corals/fish you want....lol

ajnweb's light would be perfect for a 10 gallon Nano. It'd allow you to even grow any LPS and probably a lot of SPS.

thanks sid, i have PMed him on that. i have every thing for the setup just lacking the light. does anyone run a sump on there nano?

thanks, that is the poor mans getto nano. i like it.

Possibly could run a HOB refugium. The only thing I ran on my 10 was a HOB filter with Chemi Pure in it, and did about a 1 gallon water change once a week.

hay, anyone here ever use one of those skilter's "skimmer/filters ? thinking about what to use for filtration on this 10gl. nano. what i have is 30-60 whisper power filter, 10gl. power filter and the skilter filter. which one do you think would be the best to use? i also was thinking of using the 10gl. filter with my K2 any thoughts? thanks

The skilter gives you decent room to make a refugium out of, the skimmer part is near worthless. As a filter it's decent lots of room and reliable as i've had one for almost 17 years and it still works fine and uses same impellar, granted i haven't used it steady for 17years though :D

I would say to use a 20-30 gal filter and the k2. It will give you good filtration and the k2 will give you all the flow you'll need.

just remove the inerds of the skimmer part, throw some chato in and a small light over it or what?

cool, thanks. well i guess i'm going to start this build. it might be a slow one thought. just got back from wal mart, picked up some blue krylon paint and a 4 pack of LED night lights w/ sencers for $5 for moon lights.
