My dragonface pipefish have recently began showing courtship behaviors. Actually I don't know how long this has been going on since it seems to only happen in the morning when I am usually at work. What happens is when my actinic bulbs come on they swim close together and do something similar to nuzzling. Then they intertwine their bodies for a good 15-20 minutes and rub their bellies on each other. I've been home sick from work this week and they do it pretty much every morning. Its incredibly fascinating. I will try to get a video of it as soon as I get another video card for my camera.

Has anyone seen this behavior before in their tanks? Ever raise the young? Any info would be great help. Thanks.

I don't have a mandarin goby in the tank I'm thinking of adding them too. I have a randall's shrimp goby and tailspot blenny in there. Not compatible with the mandarin goby because it'll compete for pods, right?

i have a mandain goby, 2 banded pipe and 1 dragon in 180gallon. My observation is fish do have good memory because they always come back to teh same location to sleep. Can i win a noble prize for this breakthrough observation? :)

Ours used to do this as well, until on of them was lost. The Blue Planet DVD has a quick section on these Pipes. The pair renews their bond every morning exactly the way you are observing. They then seperate and head off to look for food.
