I am currently doing my 180 gal build and find myself constantly changing my plans. I am currently building a setup in which the DT feeds through a wall into my garage. The garage is going to house my refugium and frag tank. The question that I have is my drains will be at a bout 23 inches from the first floor height, which will feed into the garage which is 25 inches lower then the first floor. However the setup that I built for my refugium and frag system is 52 inches in height. (BAD PLANNING) Would it cause a drastic loss in drain flow if I was to dogleg the drain to about 6" higher then the bottom of the tank so that the water flow can drain right into the top of the system. I am not good with the logistics of plumbing and tried to do the math but it just does not seem right. The durso's are fed into 1" PVC which right at the tanks will be WYE'd into a 2" PVC and drained into the sump system. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody out there have an idea. Would a raise of 6 inches cause a drastic reduction of drain potential. Somebody out there has to understand fluid mechanics better then myself.

Im a little confused but i think i got it.

theres no problem with this i see.. i have a setup very close..
my dt tank feeds thur the wall to the service room the sump is the lowest tank and theres a 2nd tank above them all.

dont get involved with tees and y's thats a very hard thing to get right..
just do it like this.
Dt drains to sump which is lowest
sump pumps back to dt (mid hight)
and then other tanks get water pumped to them at what ever hight or distance from the sump's return side.

(all return pumps in return section) all inputs to sump at the same location..

your drains to can combine if you need but ive found this to make it more complicated

each tank with its own return pump and drain.. will make for eazy service and less trouble shooting...
I wish i had that pic still

i guess its like 3 systems sharing the same sump..

Sweet. I do appreciate the advice. You guys are awesome. I will get some pics up here soon. I am just waiting for my return pump.
