I was planning on drilling a couple of 2 3/8" holes for 1 1/2 bulk heads (as overflow) in the back of my 140G reef tank and was wondering if anyone has done it with only draining the water down to just below the level of the hole to be drilled (Currently using a CPR overflow box). Wouldn't be too happy if the stress from the water in the tank caused it to crack.

Also, will I need to put a tee on the outside drain (instead of elbow) to make sure of maximum flow?
