Looks like he's not going to make it and my snails detached and fell to the bottom. I am disgusted with myself for my mistakes. At what point do I need to absolutely take them out of the tank? I would assume if the die it will pollute the water. Should I do some water changes? All advice gratefully appreciated!:(

what kind of signs are you seeing now? you'll usually know when an anemone is dieing, itll put a nasty smell in smaller tanks ( under 75 gallons imo) and it'll alot of times detach itself if it was detached, at that point you can just vacuum it up with a gravel vac. How are your water parameters? amonia nit (rites and rates), etc etc. Water change can never hurt. What size of tank? type of anemone? lights? anything hosting in it? stuff like that.

Sebae. 55 gal....bought the anemone too soon. He has closed up and gotten small. Sad and guilty. Still cycling I think although according to my test parameters are fine.

its normal for anemones to close up time to time and expell alot of their water and then later to take in water from the tank, it happens to mine almost every time I do a water change. How long have you had it in the tank? It'll take a few weeks usually for an anemone to die from water parameters unless you got high amonia and such.

As suggested earlier, take it back to the store where it came from. Your tank was in no way ready and thet were irresponsible for selling it to you.

Give up? I hope to become old friends:)

Take a breath and step back. One step forward at a time. Nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank and your desire to learn shows you will enjoy this hobby for years to come.

Thanks for your latest post...it has calmed me. This is tough. We have 5 dogs, 1 cat, 8 ducks, 3 kids and I am a licensed falconer ( Have a red tailed hawk named Rocky- he's so handsome). Am a true animal/nature lover. Keep rooting for me!!!!!

I personally feel this hobby is alot like others, you'll make mistakes and things wont happen exactly as you wished they will or could. But isnt that the way life is? and btw the amount of animals you got almost sounds like my home . Got a 125 saltwater reef, 55 freshwater, atm building a 450 Reef tank. Got 2 dogs and 2 cats, Iguana, 3 bearded dragons, 3 Dart frogs. If you got any questions just lemme know.
