hey everyone just wondering does anyone know if emarald crabs eat sps if so tell me right away so i can boot his a** out:badgrin:

Emerald Crabs are great and reef safe!! I have several in my 75. My largest one likes to get up on my frag rack and clean algae from all the frag plugs. Unfortunately, sometimes that means tipping them over to get at algae on the bottom...lol. The first time I saw this, I was a little concerned that it might be eating polyps, so I watched it very closely. Nope, just algae!! Great lil' guy!!

That would be a Red Mithrax. Emerald Crabs are Green Mithrax...so same family...very similar. Back to Rod's original question...I do know people who have witnessed them munching on Zoanthids, though I believe it's rare. Mine never bothers mine, except to tick them off when they walk across them, in their everlasting hunt for algae.

Right thats what I found out!
A red mithrix!
It was an acident! I asked the guy at BR to get me one emerld and he baged a red one!
I should have looked at the bag first but who really cares at this point!
It was at there sale and it was PACKED there!
I had to get out of there!

In my opinion, NO CRAB is 100% reef safe. Mythrax crabs are no exception, I have read posts where people have witnessed then killing and eating FISH once they are full grown.
