Epoxy?

I have used Aquamend before but now HD doesn't carry it here so I need a new epoxy that is reef safe. Any suggestions?

I use it for frags, gluing rocks together, making frag racks etc...

Scott, while at Home Depot, look for a brand called Water Weld. If you find it, it's Aquamend. Seems they changed the name, back in July.

Another option is the Loctite brand putty. Lots of people use it, with no problems at all, EXCEPT it'll make your skimmer go nuts, so turn off your skimmer...lol. From what I remember, Aquamend did the same thing, to my skimmer.

"Harvey's Underwater Epoxy" is also reef safe, and usually found at True Value hardware stores. Make sure you're getting Harvey's Underwater Epoxy and NOT Harvey's Plumbers Putty.

Now I'm reading conflicting information, about WaterWeld. I'm finding it, made by JB-Weld, but also finding information that says Aquamend changed to WaterWeld...lol.

Either way, everything I'm reading, seems to indicate that either are reef safe. Also, look for NSF, on the packaging. This indicates that it's approved by the National Sanitation Foundation and is "potable" safe, (safe for drinking water.)

Yeah the "waterweld" I found was made by "JB" weld. I will have to go and look at them again or try ACE.

JB Weld's Waterweld is NSF safe, according to their website. To meet this standard, it has to be safe for use for drinking water. On several searches, I've found many people who've used it, in reef tanks, for years, with no issues.

I use the coralline epoxy from BRS. I like that it blends in well but it does smell awful! I use the sandwich method of superglue epoxy and superglue and it works well. It does not work well alone.

I've never tried epoxy...Always just used super glue gel that did the trick, but granted they were really small frags iwas gluing to rocks and not rocks together.

That was one of the best tips I ever got using the epoxy with the superglue! I even use it for small frags as things stick better. Don't get me wrong sometimes things still come unglued but now my frags are far more hermit crab and turbo snail resistant! I think things would stick more if the epoxy from BRS was better.

Down here in the Bahamas they don't have much selections in an aquarium safe epoxy so superglue usually has to do the trick

I use two little fishes brand and the red specificlly


Super glue, epoxy, super glue.

Works like a champ

I think thier epoxy works fine-at least the 2 tubes I tried. I just had to stop buying them because of all the epoxy I have tried that their's smells like arse-and a rotten one at that

It does smell bad I will give you that. I think when it doesn't stick well is when I don't cure it long enough because it smells so bad!:lol: And yes you were the one that gave me the tip about using the epoxy superglue sandwich!

We used Water Weld from HD. Some of the stores carry it and some don't though. It is back in the paint dept with all the super glue's and stuff. I contacted the company that makes Aquamend and they said it was changed to Water Weld and was the same exact thing. Our entire rock structure is held together by the stuff. Works great and totally reef same IME.
