Hey, Has anyone out there had any experience with the new custom EverGrow LED systems being sold by Barrier?

I'm going to take the LED plunge and really want the new Kessil 360W but the cost for 2 is out of my price range. The EverGrow IT-2080 system seems like a good deal for the price. $480 vs. $900 for the Kessils vs. :$700-800 for the Oceans By Design system. My tank is a standard 48" 75 gal.

Any input would be helpful please.

I know they will be very upfront with you and what you can expect with them. I know people who have bought the EverGrow IT-2080 fixture are very happy with it. One thing that can only be a good sign,,,,,,,,,,,,you don't see them in the used equipment classifieds on other boards.

I bought 2 of the Evergrow Nova A8's and they absolutely rock. Still trying to figure out the program to set them up, but I love the amount of light. I also looked closely at the Ocean By Design Helios and they are awesome lights as well. Cant go wrong with either one. For details and pics of the lights check out my 150 build thread.

When you say the Barrier unit is $480 and the OBD unit is $700 to $800, I don't think you are comparing single vs single system.

The programming is awesome, painful at first to go through every hour to input the settings, but well worth it. Would not recommend going at 30min intervals! Lol.

Thanks for the comments! Dawguy, what light did you get and what size tank do you have it on?
I got the 16in controllable version with 90 deg optics, have 2 of them over my 150 that is 5x2x2... U can see a picture of them on my post in the member build forum.

Good point Martin. Nope this is for a single light from them and two lights from us with a controller mod to go with the DA Reefkeeper.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the EverGrow unit from Barrier is a 32" unit which will work (although not perfectly) for my 48" tank. It has the ability to do dawn-to-dusk with it's own built in programming. To get similar results from OBD would require 2 smaller fixtures and extra wiring and controls to get the same programming abilities hence the higher cost. So it IS closer to being apples to apples.

Two units would allow you to spread the fixtures apart a bit to get a more optimal uniform coverage than one not quite long enough fixture. It may be nit-picking ;) but it is an advantage. The puck/pod design has also been commented on by many as being more pleasing to the eye for the shimmer as opposed to the panel array.

i am very happy with my evegrow by reefbreeder.both sps and lps doing great.

Same here. I got the 16" manual dimmable version. I'm about to buy a second one in a few months to hang over the other side of my 120g.
