Don;t you just HATE when yo go into your tank to do something simple like move a frag from one spot to another or just simply pick up a frag that has fallen and before you know it you have re-aranged half of your damn tank because everything just falls apart.

What does everyone do to help stop this from happening. I try to make it so my rock all kind of sits in holes as i build my aquascape but it never seems to hold togather in the long run. Let me know.

Thanks Nick

Some use zip ties or drilled holes and rods, some use epoxy putty, many have used peg stands, I just fill the tank solid with rock so there is no room:lol:

I have to agree with mike...if there's no room for it to move then you don't have to worry about it falling over. Think of it this way though, everytime you restack it, you get that much better at stacking rock..eventually you're going to get it right, right?!? Although it's been ~7 years for me and somehow I still haven't found the magic combination :)

its all about stablity if i did an aqauscape on a clients tank i wouldnt be able to leave it knowing that the rocks could fall

Its all just a real pain in the butt. I am going to have to epoxy some of the stuff in my 125 as i set it up.

Ahhhhh you just gotta love those rock slides!! I've had my fair share. like treehugger said the more you redo your aquascape the more you get better at it :). What I have found to be the most sturdy base for me was Tonga branches not only it gives you multiple points of support it aslo leaves alot of space between the rocks for fish to swim and better flow with less dead spots on the bottom half of the tank.

Yes, I do hate that, mostly because it is my own damn fault. Instead of just moving the frag I set out to take care of I decide to move this rock a little, and that frag over there and next thing I know I am involved in a minor little re-aquascape rather than the quick little frag relocation.

I have a lot of small to medium sized rocks, so what I did was build a sub-structure with PVC, drilled holes all over the PVC, and then used natural holes in my rocks to zip-tie the rocks to the PVC. I was able to hide the structure from all viewable sides, and with multiple zip-tie anchors It was very secure. If your rocks don't already have lots of natural holes youll have to drill some. I was able to build the whole structure outside of my tank, then lift it in to place.

Aquascaping use to have me all stressed out with trying to everything just right. I spent 8 hours one day doing just that...Trying to get it to where I wanted it so I know how you feel after having a pile fall. Best bit of info I can give besides what has already been suggested is when you set your rocks, press down on the pile a bit from a few angles and see how sturdy it is. If it seems a bit shaky, then try add some support. Some people use the back of their tank walls for support which helps a lot, but just be careful if you do just that because you can develop some deadspots behind there where waste can settle and cause other issues. :)
