Filter Media...So much-out-there....

Theres so much out there for Filters to be stuffed with...? in my first (home-made ) tank... i used Crushed Lava Roc n Crushed Coral.... the filter was a ( home-made ) wet-dry/ trickkel ... My Question is.... because there is so many types of media available... its so hard to choose..... i'v a 55 Reef..... whats the ....??? for lack of words " Reliable/proven Media to Use..."...? cw.

Well there are lots you can use the most widely accepted is LR .. I personally use seachem SeaGel which seems to work pretty good. Along with a foam filter... And plenty of LR

Basically in my tank, live rock and skimming is my main source of filtration. Occasionally I use a filter sock on the drains to my sump, but it is after I blast the live rock with a powerhead or turkey baster. This helps to catch the detritus. What types of corals are you keeping?

I use live rock and lots of protein skimming, plus regularly changed activated carbon to cut down on discoloration and possible chemical attacks between corals.

SeaGel is a product by Seachem that uses Matrix activated carbon and PhosGuard. The latter helps cut down on phosphates.

Bio bale operates pretty much the same way as bio balls. SO the end product will be nitrate. What are you looking for?? are you looking for a from of mechanical filtration?? or media for the bottom of the tank??
