2 months ago all my coral are fat and healthy,,,,ohmm,,designed to use filter sock(had it sat in the back room for 4 months) for clearier water ,,yes it did,but i start to knew all of my corals are starving,,only things i did added to my system is filter sock,, and sure enough sock is dirty filter all ,,i meant everythings going through included food for my corals,,,,,Removed the filter sock all start to getting better,,,well what you guy think?????,,i don't think is coincident for removed filter sock?

Possible that because of the dirty filter sock, it was like settled detritus, and actually started to make water quality worse.

I took mine of about a week ago and have noticed that most corals are happier for sure.

This is one reason I don't use a filter sock. I don't even know why people use it.

I would only use it if you are doing tank cleaning, where detritus from rocks, BB, etc are in the water column and you are wanting to polish the tank water. Otherwise it just becomes a collecting station for microfauna, that will eventually die, and well..cause problems for the tank if not maintained.

Jeff...if you're reading this..this is exactly why I'm not sure why you are going to run one.

oh yes,,Elmo, you're right,i guessed i ran out thing to do ,,start to screw around with my tank ,,should just leave it alone,,,and watch them grow:lol: ,,but i caught it right on time before the real damage begin.

So my tank is BB.. What do you guys think?? Should I take off my sock?? If I do that, then all the detritus winds up on the bottom of my sump. I guess I could put a powerhead in my sump to keep the junk waterborn and into my skimmer?? Hmmmmmmmm??????? Jeff

ps. Ilham, you must mean another Jeff??

Oh oops, a different one ;)

Best,

I do the same thing. I put a sock in and forget about it. I removed mine yesterday along with the canister I was attached to. Must be the season.

I like the powerhead in the sump to get the detritus up and moving around. I'm gonna try that and only use the sock for a weekly cleaning from now on.

Pre New Years resolution to do better tank maintenance.

After reading this I might just decide to use it only to polish off water. I figured that I was going to have microbubbles, but with the baffles in my sump, I don't see any other point other than for water changes and polishing off water. It's big and bulky and just not very appealing other than I got them for free. :p

Ok, so I was down at Dangs yesterday stealing some frags, (the ones he didn't see me sneek out) hee hee hee.. but seriously, he convinced me to yankmy socks. Now I have 12 brand new 9 x 16" flitersocks from Precision Marine, I guess i'll put em up on the for sale board and keep one for vacuming detritus, also going to plumb one of my returns directly to my PIA Beckett.. Jeff, Oh ya, Dang: I'll see ya some time today!!!

I love filter socks. I have a 1 micron sock that I use when I powerhead off my rocks. I remove it after 12 hours or so. Then it doesn't go back on for another week.
