Well, I played "hide and go seek" for a bit in my thread in the member's showcase forum ( http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15623 ) to see what some people thought of my new corals I got today before I made a fool of myself here on the open "general forum" for getting something retarded:p It seems like I got something really cool...:) A link Sherman gave me http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=606 is the exact same thing I have...Purple Brush Gargonians. Here are a few pictures of how they look in my tank. We'll see how well they do in there as they are said to be a challenge to keep ...Flow seems to be fine as they are swaying nicely and the "polyps" (if that's what they are called) are coming out already which I'm happy about. I'm up to the challenge of having them survive so I'll keep you'll updated. I'll post more pics as the get really settled in:)

They look cool.
I've seen some people use an underwater epoxy to anchor those down. I would guess that if they fell down too many times the tissue would get damaged and lead to a untimely end.
But it sounds like these pieces got rescued.:)

Thanks guys! I will glue them down once I see they are doing well for sure. Ron...You can't buy corals here:p I harvested them broken off of a reef:)

josh, what is the purpose of the checkvalve that you have in your return?...i don't know what these do

i need to go visit krish for a few days and have him send some "broken reef" corals that i find home after i return!!!!

LOL! Yeah, all you need is a few wild Bahamians looking for fish around a reef and they leave you nice things behind to harvest. Cool, but sad...Cool for people like me, but sad for the corals that don't get rescued.

Congrats, tripletts!!!!!!! Girls or boys?

Hopefully 1 boy and 2 girls! We don't need too much gargonian testosterone in my tank!:D

very cool man

Thanks Brady! If you only knew how long this took to happen:)

that's why you're gonna open your Krishan't rescue coral 911 :D :p

I posed this question (photosynthetic vs. non-photosynthetic) to Anthony is his forum:

Anthony Calfo said:
ahhh... excellent question!

Hmmm... the best way to is refer to a good reference before you buy the gorgonian... like we all do before we buy any live creature

But when that is not so... the polyp color is actually a decent indicator. The zooxanthellae impart a dingy color, sometiomes literally brown or tan to the polyps.

White, blue, orange, yellow or red polyps are a no-brainer... leave those ones in the sea (or for specialists only please). They are non-photosynthetic.

Instead, most of the hardy (for aquarium use) photosynthetic gorgs are brown, tan, purple, or gray. FWIW :)

From the thread: Gorgonian Purchasing Question

Congrats on the additions, Krish!!

Thanks everyone!:) We'll see how they look when I get home after having them in the tank for 24 hours. Hopefully no bad surprises :)

They are going to be fine. I have a chunk of one in a customers tank for over two years now. Growing right along. Good job man.

Thanks Steve! I'm only concerned that they were rescued and may have been on the way out so I'll have to keep an eye on it:)
