Hi, I am doing a little research on finding fishes which are in good demand and not. Just to be safe, if I had to part out, I would rather see it's sold within 24hrs after posting. I've seen hippo tangs, powder blue tangs, and some angels go fast before I ever get a chance to send them a PM

Can anyone here share thier experience on what fishes you sold that went fast and which had no bites for weeks/months..

If anyone is in the same boat I am now, looking for something, and seem to miss it every time it's posted on classified. I'd like to know, since sometimes I could spread the word around.

Why are you trying to find fish that are in demand?
In case you have to part out? Why would you have to part out?

The best way to do things in this hobby is to determine what size tank you can have/afford, and then research which fish will thrive in that size tank.

If all you can afford in both space and financially right now is a 24 gallon Aquapod, you dont need to worry about angels or tangs.....

I'm confused by what you're asking here.

Nick

+1 on book recomended ^above^ by Kirk, also in my library and well used

Cheers, Todd

Also if and when you start looking for a particular fish, you can post in the classifieds the ones you are looking for. That way if someone has one they are looking to sell or give away, they may contact you before they post it up.

I have that book too, Jesse from Denny's pet world recommended me that one and it's a great book. Lots of great fishes out there, but some are hard to get or too expensive at the LFS. Most I rely on craigslist or the forum to find deals.
My point is to have fishes that are in demand. Purple tangs are in demand and easy to get a buyer to jump on it... a yellow tang takes time since it's too common and many won't drive the distance for one.

I just wanted to see what fishes the public wants.

My current tank is a 110 gallon (60x18 footprint). It doesn't matter what size tank, it's how high a specie is in demand, and no question I know if I am ready to part for any reason, all I need to know if there is someone out there would jump on it in a hearbeat.. I had a pair of nice size mono argentues that I had posted cheap for over a month with no takers and wound up trading both for another fish that had been posted for a while.

.

To be honest it sounds more like something more along the lines of being commercial/buisness in nature than anything else. I've never heard of anyone asking which fish are in demand so they can buy that species in case they want to sell. I mean, who buys a fish with plans of selling it? Usually you buy a fish because its something you want for your tank.

This is a very confusing thread. Going to close it temporarily until we can figure out what is going on. May be nothing, but does sound a bit commercial in nature especially by you saying "You want to see what fish the public wants".

We decided to re-open the thread however we are still un-sure what the thread really is all about. Keep in mind though that anything commercial in nature is not allowed here (only by sponsors) and any buying or selling must be done in the classified section only.

I am new into salt and have been a long time freshwater hobbyist. However with my past experiment, I know the value of freshwater fishes...there are plenty of fishes that are worth ditto... I'm a collector, and had a lot of different kinds of fishes, like frontosa and tropheus, where most i get from breeders and serious hobbyists for quality and better prices. I know if I see something good come up, i will grab him.

I have learned a few things..hippo, purple tangs, emporer angels go very fast..when I see one posted and it over an hr drive, sometimes I wonder if I should go get it since it doesn't come around often, or should I wait for another one to come by?

I have no idea which is pretty common, I haven't been into salt long enough, just trying to make a good decision. Just looking for some fellow reefers to give me some tips which are worth getting. Tons of great fishes, wish I had a 10,000 gal tank to put all of em in...

Jeff,

I agree with you, there are more colorful fish in saltwater than in freshwater, however one should first decide the size of their tank and then the types of fish that are suitable for said tank, not the other way around. Also you would need to decide what type of tank you want; that is, reef, fish only, or mixed (reef and fish). and by reef I mean corals.

Tangs and angels are very colorful but need alot of room to swim.

Along with the Marine Reference book I mentioned early, there is another book that I will recommend, also in my fish library, :

http://www.amazon.com/Conscientious...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1329797577&sr=1-1

First half talks about tank setup, water parameters, disease identification and treatment; the second half of book describe the different genus of fish and wish ones to buy and to avoid. I read this book twice before I put one drop of saltwater in my first tank which was a 29gallon over 15 yrs ago.

Keep asking questions, as this is how you learn..
:)

To answer your question, I would say Powder blue's and white cheek tangs seem to be in good demand as well as the blue spot jaw fish, yasha/randal shrimp pairs, and picasso/platinum clowns. I don't think you would have any trouble re-selling these fish if you had to break the tank down. ( hope im not being frowned upon right now )

thanks for the tip, I'll add the bluethroat to my wish list...I enjoy the unique look on my niger trigger and wouldn't mind adding another trigger.

as triggers go, bluethroat (male) is a peaceful fish and normally does not bother anyone, however the niger can be a bugger rearranging rock work and to think before add this fish to any tank..
the power blue can be a bully and is prone to Ich, again needs to think before adding to any tank (that is, does this fit my tank theme). :)

the point is not to buy a fish cuz it is in demand, the point is to buy a fish that fits your tank (and theme) and enjoy it.

tangs seem to be prone to ick...I'm only sticking with one for now. Did see a couple of bluespotted jawfish at Denny's for 100 each...ouch! My niger seem to be pretty peaceful, one reason I'd wouldn't mind getting the bluethroat...I have also consdired the black hawaiian trigger.
