Finding Your Daily Usage

Hey All,

I want to know if there's anything special I need to do to find my daily usage for Ca and Alk. I'm going on vacation for 8 days or so and I have someone taking care of the tank. It'd be nice to say to add X amount of this and X amount of this each day.

I think I've got it down, but it'd be nice to hear other people's input.

Pen and paper. Charting your test results and dosing amounts gives you the information to keep everything stable.

i don't think your tank sitter should be dosing any thing its a little risky i think your tank should do fine for 8 days with out dosing ....

If you have a high daily usage, it is more dangerous to not dose. Your alk would quickly plumit and consequently so would your PH. This would wreak havoc with any sps.

FWIW, When I went on vacation I had my neighbors son come over and I explained things in easy terms for him to understand and measured out all the food for the week and any supplements were measured out and halved and put in little cups with lids marked for what day and times,that way I was sure there would be no overdose and I expected the parameters would be low but thats better than the latter...maybe this could work for you too.
Do a water change before you go to, that way your not worrying.

The tank is all SPS and I think I have it measured pretty well. I'll just have to make sure its dosed all around the same time each day
