Fire Shrimp with a Peppermint or Cleaner Shrimp in a 40G Breeder?

I currently have a Fire Shrimp in a 40G breeder who experienced a bad molt and lost a good portion of his mobility. For that reason, I've isolated the Fire shrimp until he gets back to normal. I also have a Corral Beauty in the display tank who really enjoyed the "cleanings" offered by the Fire Shrimp. I'm considering buying a cleaner or peppermint shrimp to give the Corral Beauty the cleaning in the absence of the Fire Shrimp (I know its not required for him to be cleaned), but once the Fire Shrimp is re-introduced will the 2 shrimp fight?

I only ask because when I was in at Petco, the salesman told me that shrimp do not intermingle. However i've read several posts where people have successfully kept multiple carrying shrimp before, but maybe that only works in larger tanks.

If I can have 2 different types of shrimp, which would do best for the job of cleaning the beauty, a cleaner or a peppermint (or are they both the same)?

Any experience from people with multiple shrimp or opinions are welcomed.

i have a 40 as well with 2 peppermint, 1 fire and 1cleaner shrimp with no issue, just wish i saw my fire shrimp more! hope this helps....

Thanks, that's exactly what i was looking for. I was hoping someone out there had multiple shrimp in a single 40 so that I knew it was possible.

in my 57 gallon oceanic illuminate I have 1 skunk cleaner, 2 fire shrimp, 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 sexy shrimp, 1 pistol shrimp and have had no problems so far. I also have a coral banded shrimp who got banished to the sump.

I've heard that the corral banded shrimp can get progressiveley more aggressive as they get older, so i was planning to stay away from them for now. I'm kinda leaning towards a peppermint or a skunk.

I like the cleaner shrimp, they interact well togeather and are very friendly. used to keep 6 in my 100 gallon tank. They were always cleaning my hands when i had them in the tank for maintenance. lol

I was just bout to say that. I freaked me out the first time both of mine got to my hand:bounce:. I had my hand in my 215g and my wife asked me a question, so I had my ARM in my tank when I turned to answer her and my lil cleaner jumped on my hand and my big one jumped onto my elbow...scared the crap out of me...lol. I got ambushed. After they calmed down from me jerking my arm out, they came back and were "running" up and down my arm like a playground...lol.
As for your question, I have 2 cleaners-different sizes, and a fire shrimp. Never had a problem. I too had a coral banded and sold him. He was a butt!!

Thanks for the replies. I've re-introduced my Fire shrimp into my display tank with the cleaner shrimp now that his legs have re-grown. They seem to be getting along very well. Now that I have both, i kinda with they were both cleaners, because I find the cleaners to be much more interesting and fun to watch lol . Oh well.

Kind of a change in subject, but I've always been curious how those HUGE tanks get cleaned. How exactly do you clean something like a 215g tank? Seems like you'd have to have a hoist above the tank and a harness so you could "fly" above it to clean out all the nooks and crannies lol. Maybe it's just the fact that i'm short, but i don't think i could even reach to the bottom of a tank that size with a foot stool lol!

Only reason I'm asking is because a 280g tank complete with sump and al equipment just went for sale on Craigslist a few blocks from me. I'm kinda tempted to buy it lol, but am a little worried that a little extra "height" it required to manage something that size.

Turkey baster, a 5g bucket, and an extendable algae scaper, and a long hose. Thats all I ever use. I know its not the safest way to do it, but I stand on the 5g bucket (im 5'10"). Its a stretch. I will use the baster to blow off all the rocks and along the bottoms of them as well as the SPS I have (not very hard) just to get the stuff off. Long hose is obvious, cleaning the top of the sand of detritus (I have fine sugar sand). The scraper is just a cleaning tool you would get from petco. It has an extendable arm, a blade style scraper and a bristly pad that attaches. I tossed the pad and just use the scraper. I have a glass tank. Wouldnt recomend doing this with an acrylic tank. I also will use just the arm to stir up the sand a little once a month and flip the astrea snails back over when theyre upside down.
My wife is 5'3". She can clean the tank just as good as me (not as fast lol). She cant reach her arm to the bottom...lol.
Oh. I also have a tiger shark magnetic glass cleaner. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!!
