So over the last 2 days I have lost a male and female pair of square spots, 5 green cromis, a longhorn cowfish, my wifes beloved little yellow tang. All in 2all days!! All the corals, a mix of softies and lps, are doing great. The snails are all doing great also. No problems with anything but the fish. My parameters all look fine also:Temp 78Amonia 0Nitrite 0Nitrate 0PH 8.2Salinity with refractometer 1.026This tank is 110g with about 40g goin through the sump. No fuge but the sump has a 200 micron filter sock, the asm g2 skimmer, about 80#40g of live rock and now a BRS reactor with carbon. This tank has been going since the middle of december. Added the first green cromis in the first part of febuary with no problems.I dont know whats wrong, please help.Masonries

guessing a predator finally got big enough to do some damage. or oxygen levels got far too low ? disease ? any signs of stress?

Did the longhorn get stressed or attacked. Because they secreet a,poison that is deadly.

Didnt know they were poisonous! It happened at night. No scars. Fish were all small so we could watch them grow. My cowfish did have a breakout of ick. I put him in a hospital tank when i noticed it.

How long ago was the Ich outbreak and did you only treat? the Cowfish ??? It is a very young tank for having that many fish in it already and guessing Ich or another parasite like Velvet did a number on them. I'd go fallow for the next 8 weeks and then start more slowly with fish introductions especially fish like Anthias and Tangs.

I have just gotten done taking the other couple fish out. Theyre in their new home in the big tank now. What do you mean by fallow. Dont recall ever hearing that one. I treated all the fish, not just the cowfish.

Without anything else, I feel your tests are suspect. Almost no chance of all pollutants being zero after a die-off. I also agree with Todd, disease sounds likely

Ok. Then im going to take a sample to lfs. Maybe it is my tests. Just kinda wierd, to me atleast, that the fish are dying and not the corals or inverts.

Were there any marks or discoloration of the fish. I have never personally delt with it (knock on wood) but this is sounding more and more like a disease. Not to alarm you but my buddy's out break of marine velvet sounds almost identical to this. I would google it and compair with your fishies. Even if it is velvet its not nessisarly the end. He did have some survivors and the tank recovered well.

I hope its not this but its better to know what you are dealing with IMO

Im almost positive it wasnt velvet. Not 100%the sure. It looked like ick, but also like velvet. Maybe a combo? None of the fish had bites or scars or anything like that. Just bodies.

really hard to see ich on a small green chromis...and once you do spot ich on any fishes body, you can bet the soft fleshy gills are already full of it. Havn't read much but have heard about a newer strain of ich that kills really quickly once it is noticed. just a thought.

No need to be sorry. just trying to think of the most likely cause for your situation...and if one had ich I would assume all. what is the update on them?

It definitely sounds like Ich was the culprit, fish end up dying from affixiation from the parasites infesting thier gills rendering them useless for proccessing oxygen. You don't always notice much if any outside indication of the parasite but you will under closer examination notice very fast breathing and kind of a chuffing action in trying to dislodge the parasites. After the DT has gone fallow for 8 weeks there will be no more parasites in the system and if fish have been treated (coppper) or gone through hyposalinity for same time period before being placed back into system you will have a parasite free Reeftank. Then the hard part of QT-ing all livestock prior to introduction to keep it that way.

Cheers, Todd
