This forum has provided a bunch of good clam info. I now know my water, lighting, flow is OK, and I now how to select my clam. In a link to Barry's article he mentions some cleaner wrasses can be a problem. I have a 6 line is he a problem for clams? Also are there any inverts to steer clear of? Thank you everyone for all the help.

a 6 line will be fine with clams.

there are too many things to list tat could cause problems for clams. it would be easier if you listed what you have now(list everything, fish, crabs, shrimp, starfish, ect..) or anything you might want to get in the future

The inverts I have are as follows

snails-Turbo, astrea, nassarius
Shrimp-Coral banded, Skunk Cleaner
crabs-just blue legged hermits
starfish-green brittle, black brittle, orange linkia

The only thing I may add in the futures is peppermint shrimp.

Any particular coral that are bad??

Again thanks for the quick reply

keep an eye on the shrimp they can be hit or miss

as long as corals aren't touching them they shouldn't cause any problems.

most brittle star's are fine but there are many starfish that would love to meet your clam

Purchased a 2.5" squamosa on Saturday. Had been in stock for a little over 2 weeks. He had 2 squamosa and 3 crocea, this one seemed to have the best mantle/colors, and the best response to movement. I got him for $35 so the price seemed right. Also it is aquacultured so that is a plus. I will keep you updated as to how things progress.

OK I have had the clam a month or so. So far so good. My home computer is broke so I haven't been able to put up any pics yet. There are on the way though.

I have a lawnmower blenny that developed a taste for 2 baby maxima clam's mantle. Moved them all over, even covered them with a bowl and it found a way in to attack. Left the larger clams alone. Got him trapped and out yesterday. Poor little clams have nipped mantle but are now fully open and appear happy and disease free.

Mine are constantly sleeping in and on my clams. Every now and again they will close up on him but no one seems to care.

If you get a chance, could you take a picture? Would be cool to see. Yeah used the blenny as an example of a fish one would never consider preditory. My Nevarchus leaves all the clams alone, and the blenny saw the little ones as sport and food. Have owned him for a couple years, never touched an invert but off he goes to another's clam free tank.

Picture shouldnt be to hard to get. Their ugly but I'd say their my favorite fish.:)

i've heard mixed things about blennies; some people don't report problems, others do. but for what it's worth, a friend and i bought croceas from the same place and both of our bicolours went after them almost immediately.

Make sure you tell the clam to smile...a smiling clam with a blenny in it would be an awesome pic!!! lol. Maybe the clam is just warning the blenny of what the future could hold if the blenny started mantle nipping. Who knows....maybe some day the clam will forget to open back up and release the blenny!!!
